A30 closed until the end of July, A16 for the weekend. The Netherlands complicates truck routes

The Netherlands is preparing for a difficult Pentecost weekend on its main transit routes. The biggest disruptions for carriers will occur on the A16 near Rotterdam, where the closure of the section towards Dordrecht and Breda will divert traffic via the A20 and the Beneluxtunnel.
Drivers travelling through the Netherlands during the Pentecost weekend must prepare for serious disruptions on the main transport corridors. The biggest problems will occur on the A16 in the Rotterdam area, where the section between the Terbregseplein and Ridderkerk junctions will be completely closed from Friday evening. Disruptions will also affect the A9, A28, A30 and the Amsterdam area.
❌ The works on the A16 towards Dordrecht and Breda will have the greatest impact on international transport. From 22 May at 22:00 until 25 May at 05:00, traffic there will effectively be reduced to one lane on the parallel carriageway. Diversions will run via the A20 and the Beneluxtunnel, which means a risk of major congestion around Rotterdam, especially for carriers heading towards Belgium.
Rijkswaterstaat is replacing asphalt, expansion joints and safety infrastructure elements on this section. Dutch road authorities openly admit that the motorway network increasingly requires modernisation, as many routes were built in the 1950s and 1960s.
❌ Drivers using the A9 between Alkmaar and Uitgeest will also face problems. Until 9 June, traffic there is running on narrowed lanes with a speed limit of 70 km/h. Additional disruptions will occur from 22 to 27 May in the Heemskerk and Beverwijk area.
❌ Another critical point remains the A28 towards Hoogeveen. The section between Fluitenberg and the Hoogeveen junction remains closed until 8 June due to works on the road surface, viaducts and tunnels.
❌ Disruptions also continue on the A30 towards Barneveld. The closure between Ede-Noord and the connection with the A1 will last until the end of July. Truck traffic is being diverted via the A12, A27, A28 and A1.
❌ In addition, connections from the A4 and A10 Zuid towards A10 West will be closed in the Amsterdam area. Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out works there related to the construction of a new flyover at the De Nieuwe Meer junction.
Dutch road authorities warn that Friday afternoon may be one of the most congested periods of the entire weekend. The heaviest traffic is expected between 15:00 and 17:30, not only on motorways but also on diversion routes leading towards Belgium and Germany.
