Slovakia Closes the D1 Motorway Towards Bratislava. Disruptions Starting Friday

Drivers will face a closure of the D1 motorway towards Bratislava between the Bernolákovo interchange and Zlaté Piesky from 12 to 14 June. The restrictions are related to the final works on the D1/D4 interchange, which is expected to divert part of the heavy traffic away from the Slovak capital.
The modernization of the D1 motorway on the approach to Bratislava is nearing completion, but before the D1/D4 interchange can be fully opened, drivers will still have to contend with further disruptions. The Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS) has announced a weekend closure of the D1 towards Bratislava on the section between the Bernolákovo interchange and Zlaté Piesky. The restriction will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 12 June, and remain in place until early Sunday evening, 14 June.
The works are part of the final stage of the modernization of one of the most important access routes to the Slovak capital. Thanks to the investment, motorists are already using reconstructed sections of the D1, which in some places have been expanded to eight lanes, while traffic can now flow directly between the Bratislava D4 bypass and the D1 motorway. According to NDS, the new road layout removes more than 2,000 heavy vehicles from the city centre every day.
The weekend closure is necessary because some finishing works cannot be carried out while traffic is maintained. During this period, contractors will install multi-ton gantries, traffic counting equipment, and road signage on the Trnava–Jarovce and Trnava–Rača connector roads. Road workers will also adjust the pavement on one of the ramps, remove temporary signage, and apply permanent road markings. NDS has stated that, should traffic conditions deteriorate during the weekend, the intersection in Ivanka pri Dunaji and the junction of Road I/61 with Nádražná Street may also be temporarily closed. However, these restrictions will not apply to bus services.
Once the weekend works are completed, traffic organisation around Lake Vajnory will also change. The exit to Vajnory from the D1 towards Trnava will only be possible via the Ivanka Sever interchange at the latest. NDS is urging drivers to pay close attention to the permanent road signage after the closure and not to rely on their previous knowledge of the route, as the traffic layout will differ from the existing one.
This will not be the end of the planned works. A second closure will affect only the connector road from the D4 coming from Jarovce to the D1 towards Trnava. Weather permitting, the restriction will be introduced from midnight on Thursday, 18 June, and will remain in force until Sunday afternoon, 21 June. During this period, road workers will complete the installation of permanent horizontal and vertical signage. The closure will also make the access from the old Senec road in Ivanka pri Dunaji to the D4 motorway unavailable.
