Tyrol Eases Truck Sectoral Ban for 11 Days

From 23 July to 2 August 2026, some Euro VI trucks will be temporarily exempt from the sectoral traffic ban in Tyrol. The exemption has been introduced for the duration of the Mühltal Tunnel renovation works on the A13 Brenner Motorway and will apply to vehicles meeting a specified NOx emission limit.

The change was introduced by a regulation published on 7 July 2026, amending the provisions governing the sectoral traffic ban. The list of exemptions has been expanded to include journeys by Euro VI vehicles carried out during the renovation of the Mühltal Tunnel on the A13 Brenner Motorway. The wording of the regulation does not indicate that the exemption is limited solely to vehicles serving the construction project or transports directly related to the works. It refers only to the vehicle's emission class and the period during which the exemption applies, without imposing any additional conditions regarding the type of cargo or the purpose of the journey.

The Mühltal Tunnel is located on the A13, which, together with the A12 Inntal Motorway, forms the main transport corridor through Tyrol towards the Brenner Pass and Italy. Although the sectoral traffic ban applies to selected sections of the A12, disruptions on the A13 affect transport operations throughout the region. The temporary exemption will remain in force for 11 days and will automatically expire at the end of 2 August. From 3 August, the existing rules governing the sectoral traffic ban will once again apply. The sectoral traffic ban covers the transport of selected categories of goods on the A12 Inntal Motorway. The restriction was introduced to reduce pollutant emissions and improve air quality in Tyrol.
