Braunau bridge closed until 1 July. Problem for truck drivers between Austria and Germany

Trucks over 3.5 tonnes cannot cross the border bridge in Braunau am Inn between Austria and Germany. The crossing on the B148 road has been closed until 1 July, and there is no easy diversion for heavy goods vehicles in the region.

The bridge over the Inn river in Braunau am Inn, on the border between Austria and Germany, has been closed due to construction works. The disruption is important for road transport because the crossing on the B148 is one of the key links in the region for vehicles crossing the Austrian-German border. The closure has been in force since Monday, 22 June 2026, from 7:00 and is expected to last until Wednesday, 1 July 2026, until 18:00. It covers the bridge at the Braunau am Inn border crossing, which can be reached from the Austrian side, among others, via Altheimer Straße.

The biggest problem concerns vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tonnes. During the closure, they will not be able to use this crossing. Due to the weight restrictions in force on diversion roads in the region, no alternative route passable for trucks over 3.5 tonnes has currently been indicated.

Carriers and drivers should also remember that the second bridge in Braunau, which can be reached through the town centre, is not a solution for heavy goods traffic. Both the bridge itself and the main road leading to it are not open to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. The disruption may be particularly important for regional transport and routes between Upper Austria and Bavaria.
